From an early age, photography has always been Pierre-Paul De Beir’s greatest passion. As a young boy he received his very first personal camera, a Zeiss Ikon Baby Box Tengor. After a short stay at the Sint-Lucas school in Ghent, he continued his personal development as a selftaught amateur with his Minolta SRT 101, mostly for wedding reports, of which he has now shot and documented more than two hundred and counting. With a Durst he learns to develop and enlarge his own analog film through photographic processing.
With the arrival of the digital age, he switches to a Canon and his focus shifts towards studio and street photography. He enjoys decentralising the protagonists in his work and back-light and shadow effects dominate his personal style. Contrasting scenes of black and white are his method of preference.
