Santiago Barreiro was born in La Paloma, Uruguay in 1985. He trained as a photographer at the Fotoclub Uruguayo (2006-2008) and immediately started working for different companies, magazines, newspapers and media organisations, local and international. Amongst them: El País, La Diaria, El ideal de España, El Espectador, Danza Brasil, Dance Europe, Reuters, the Uruguayan Ministry of Culture, the SODRE National Ballet Company and Gaynor Minden New York.
He has taken part in several group projects and has displayed his work on many occasions, both locally and abroad, amongst which the following deserve a special mention: "Fotograma 2009", "Iguales a la par" exhibition; "Un techo para mi país 2008"; "Con fotos ayudamos", Reaching U exhibition, in New York City; "Movida Joven 2009" exhibition; "International Development Bank 2012" exhibition; "Gran Premio Fotografía Optec - Carl Zeiss Uruguay 2012" and "Fotograma 2013", with the group "Detrás de una mirada".
His photos have taken part of several publishing projects as "Uruguay Panorama 2012"; "Bicentenario Uruguayo", of the Ministry of Education and Culture; a publication for Latin America of the World Health Organisation (WHO), "Divino Salvo. Emotional rescue of Montevideo's most emblematic landmark", "Jogo do Corpo" of the "San Pablo Compañia de Danza", and he has been actively involved in the catalogues of the International Festival of Photography "Fotograma".
As a result of his deep and dedicated interest in classical dance, in 2012 he is hired by Julio Bocca to photograph the SODRE National Ballet Company at work.
